Dorset Buttons 1 with Tania of TJFrog
Tania of TJFrog was brought up in Dorset on the South Coast of England, and now lives on the Isle of Skye off the North West coast of Scotland. Tania is a Dorset Button maker, teacher, podcaster and hand knitter. Her aim is to contribute to keeping alive the traditional skill of Dorset Button making, a cottage industry dating back to the 1600s. It supported small Dorset rural villages and towns with many different designs adorning dresses and waistcoats. 2022 will see 400 years since the birth of the Dorset Button industry.
Using rings and yarn you will cover all the traditional techniques to make beautiful decorative and functional Dorset Buttons. They are a great way to add a personal finishing touch to your hand made projects, revitalise an old garment or adorn a bag, hat or cushion. In this workshop you will learn about the techniques and history of the heritage craft of Dorset Button making and as you make Tania will show samples of her work and how to incorporate Dorset Buttons into your own creative projects.
Date and Time: July 24, 2021. 10:00am - 12:00pm EDT
Class Materials Included: Set of dorset button rings, darning needle, and PDF handout.
Zoom links and materials will be sent out prior to class.
